I think Europe’s AI opportunity lies not in competing with the US or China on scale, but in leveraging its strengths. Europe’s companies are, on average, smaller than their US counterparts. And size matters when it comes to AI adoption. Larger companies can spread the high fixed costs of AI over greater revenues and can deploy AI more effectively thanks to larger datasets. Esp. our smaller organizations need access to affordable compute, high-quality data, and the right funding, advice, and networks to adopt sector-specific AI solutions. And let’s not forget the human side: AI isn’t just about tech—it’s about people. Companies must invest in workforce development, building AI capabilities, and fostering data-centric cultures. In short: Europe’s AI future isn’t about building the biggest models, but about making AI work for businesses of all sizes—especially the small and medium ones that form the backbone of our economy.
